The building, originally built as a rural warehouse, is nestled in the agricultural area of the Treviso countryside. It consists of a rectangular volume of very poor architectural value, with large arched openings. These arches immediately struck us as a highly distinctive feature, so much so that we decided to retain and enhance them in our project.
The renovation focused on the completely new design of the originally empty interior space, creating two floors and a large double-height space that allows for full enjoyment of the large arched windows.
To achieve the two internal levels, appropriate structural adaptations were required, in addition to energy efficiency improvements such as the installation of a new electrical and plumbing system, insulation of walls, floors, and roof, installation of a photovoltaic system, and installation of high-performance metal windows.
The will of respecting the building’s rural original character led us to maintain the exposed wooden beams, reusing the existing ones, which were painted and repositioned to match the new carpentry structure of the roof and mezzanine.
The use of wood and burnished metal also guided the choice of finishes, which focused on warm shades of beige and sand, and the textured textures of exposed brick. It also influenced the exterior design, which respects the building’s color palette, creating pathways and green areas in a coherent and elegant whole, without losing the traditional agricultural soul of the original building.
The restoration of a rural outbuilding in the province of Treviso requires not only technical and architectural expertise, but is also consistently challenging due to historical and landscape restrictions.
