We present restoration and addition of a rustic house located in the municipality of San Pietro di Feletto in the heart of the DOCG – UNESCO hills.
Restoration
The building shows the typical rural features and is nestled in the renowned Prosecco hills, a Unesco heritage, protected area.
The building’s distinctive character meant that the design choices respected the original forms and materials, particularly the use of “conglomerate stone”, a material abundant in the area and commonly used in construction.
The structural consolidation work then proceeded, restoring the original window openings, cleaning the exposed natural stone parts and replacing any damaged elements, resurfacing the wooden floors and roof with painted metal trusses coupled with exposed wooden beams, insulating the roof and walls, installing new systems, and installing new high-performance wooden windows and doors, with the goal of ensuring both a structural and energy-efficient improvement for the entire building.
The layout was also completely revised to create two small residential units, making the most of the attic space and enhancing the views of the surrounding landscape through the opening of two large windows overlooking the vineyards.
Addition
The contemporary additions to the original building consist of two buildings.
The first is a cantilevered metal patio, placed adjacent to the western elevation of the existing building. It connects directly to the living areas of the two apartments, creating a sort of extension. These apartments can thus further enjoy the picturesque view of the vineyards, gaining an outdoor space sheltered from the elements.
The second is a new volume located on the north side of the farmhouse, with a deliberately contemporary aesthetic. Its minimal, clean lines allow it to be recognized as “new” without diminishing the existing building, which, in fact, is “cited” through the reinterpretation of pudding stone, the defining element of the project.
